An orphaned baby elephant named Mwayi is currently under the emergency care of our conservation partner Wildlife Action Group (WAG), in Malawi. WAG is a frontline conservation partner supported by the Abraham Foundation | Trunks Up that protects Malawi’s most threatened wildlife corridors.
Mwayi was rescued after being swept away from her herd by strong river currents. Diligent community-led efforts were made to reunite the baby with her herd but sadly, despite these efforts, the herd located nearby subsequently rejected the tiny orphan.
At this point, it became clear that WAG needed to step in and take her into their loving care protecting Mwayi from further harm and giving her the best possible chance of survival. She is incredibly vulnerable and fragile, and she urgently needs continued support to survive.
